As many of you are aware, there is a significant shortage of large animal veterinarians in Pittsylvania County and surrounding areas. This shortage has been exacerbated by several factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to an increase   in pet ownership and a corresponding rise in demand for companion animal veterinarians. Additionally, many new veterinary graduates are opting for companion animal practices due to better pay and more manageable work hours.

Furthermore, we have seen a number of experienced large animal veterinarians retire or transition out of large animal practice, and some clinics have had to stop offering emergency hours due to staffing challenges. This has placed an immense strain on the few remaining large animal veterinarians and clinics in our area, making it increasingly difficult to provide timely and comprehensive care for your horses and livestock.

We want to assure you that we are actively seeking to address this issue. We are launching an advertising blitz to attract qualified large animal veterinarian(s) to our community. We are also putting together a competitive compensation package that includes housing with utilities, medical benefits, a vehicle, and all necessary equipment to practice large animal medicine. Additionally, we are offering vacation time and other incentives to make the position as attractive as possible.

We are also asking our client base and community to share this information on their social media pages to help spread the word nationwide. If you know any large animal veterinarians who might be interested, please encourage them to reach out to us.

Your support and understanding during this challenging time are greatly appreciated. We remain committed to providing the best possible care for your animals and will continue to work tirelessly to bring a much-needed large animal veterinarian to our area.
